Morpholio Trace - Sketch CAD App Reviews

The app is designed mostly for architects. Features such as scaled line weights with zooming ability (while drawing), straight-edge with scaled units, templates for planting, trees, people, furniture, layers, title blocks, etc. are what allow architects to sketch ideas that become useful and communicative to clients. Engineering professionals, draftsmen, landscape architects, planners, artists, community development groups, developers, and a slew of others in the planning/building industry can find this app helpful. That said, as a graphic artist, you may find this app lacking. As a response to the pay for everything reviews: the developer has changed the approach and decided to create a $.99 monthly subscription price for the Pro version. Not cheap when the following shortcomings could be better: handling of files in a general gallery isnt robust enough, exporting a flat file with the layering stack effects make smaller drawings with many layers difficult to read and ruins the ability to present designs (an option to flatten the layers should be included and allow full transparency), undo command commands crash the app. Hint and workflow drawback: for a layer to be high resolution-zoom into drawing and create a layer. Drawback? Only small area is high res and you must create another small windowed layer to continue higher rez drawing. Anything drawn beyond the zoomed in layer creation is low rez.

GENERAL ALL PURPOSE INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER CALL TO ARMS. Morpholio Trace has brought a much needed Custom Stencil Platform to IOS. Its so cool and you can use litterally any png to make a custom Strait Edge to sketch with. The Stencil Feature needs to be developed a little but the potential is obviously astronomically massive. Why artrage didnt put them in their ios app baffles me. Listen people... this app isnt all the way there yet but!!!!... Im thinking it will be. Currently this is a dream come true for Architects. With a little development...this app could be a dream come true for car designers and product designers. This is a five star review due to the truly MAJESTIC potential of this app. Awesome Gang!!! Excellent drawing tool for my art.

Intuitive and easy to use. Excellent touch and feel with apple pencil. Great tool for editing or creative thinking. Scaling, layers and ease of export make this a fantastic App.

I dont review much. But I felt I had too on this app. The new stencil feature, with the ability to create your own stencils is an amazing feature. If you are an artist, or just someone who wants to be able to create great looking art, the stencil feature lets you do it. Being able to reuse, resize, rotate the stencil allows for nearly endless creativity. Take your drawings to another level. This feature alone made the app a must have and must buy. I want to support this creative team and see what they come up with next. Perfect compliment to Apple Pencil.

Ive had this app on my mini for years and now its on my iPad Pro. I love being able to use one of my images as a stencil. The customer service gets 5 stars as well!

This is a wonderful app, suitable for everyone who likes old school drawing combined with the latest technology. I love it!

Morpholio trace has literally revolutionized the design process for those of us who still like to draw by hand! An absolute bargain at $7.99 for the year. Before taking my interior architecture practice digital I was reticent about giving up the tactility and quick ability to red line and sketch on trace. The trace app has taken the best of paper and made it digital while also capitalizing on the layers and flexibility of working on the computer. Ive been using it for about two weeks and every time I use it I think of another method to capitalize on its capabilities. Its a fantastic tool of course for sketching and red lining plans but also perfect for pulling quick perspectives and renderings. The hand of the tools are remarkably realistic, intuitive and really easy to use. Im yet to think "I wish they had done this" and not discover two seconds later that they have. Thank you morpholio for making its easy to go digital! For those who still do mood boards and presentation boards the morpholio "board" app is awesome as well!

Positively LOVE this app. Allows for all the artistry you appreciate from real trace, but gives you precision and flexibility that real trace does not. Highly recommend.

On my first real project use (4 hours in the field) doing record drawings (measuring an existing house). I used separate layers for my exterior walls, interior walls, doors/windows, dimensions, and notes. Things went well and I was pleased with the app. Upon getting back to the office I found that all the layers all shifted and nothing lined up making most of the work useless. If the layers could be locked in place this would be VERY, VERY helpful. Additionally locking the stencil size would also be helpful.

Game changing app for architects. No more sheets of yellow trace. I can sketch, mark up drawings/photos as well as design from anywhere at anytime. In conjunction with drop box this app is indispensable... together you can communicate with clients and staff anywhere you have a phone connection. Its still a little weak with respect to folder management but if you are an architect that still likes to draw this is the best app you will find on the market. Cannot say enough how much this has improved the way that I work.

You could not ask for a better app for architects. Ive been looking for apps that deal easily with scale drawing and this is truly unbelievable. As an architect you often need to work in layers, with uninterrupted work flow. This app makes designing anywhere effortless, fast and cool. My fav functions are: -custom stencils -scale setting -triangle plus a ruler -moving paper with 3 fingers -the scale pen function -the pencil is seriously the best you will find More color control would be helpful but other then that, this is near perfect. 5 proud stars!

I have not used this app in a while and just came back to it for a job. I absolutely love the new interface and tools. Much greater range of functions and love the new design. I dont usually write reviews but this one deserves it.

For design studies there is nothing better then this. Please add multi page PDF import and it will be perfect.

Ive gone through several sketching apps for architecture and this is by far the best for three reasons. 1. Very easy to use 2. Custom stencils are amazing 3. Best export by a mile Layers and other tools are great as well. Two improvements would be it needs project folders and a compass. Other then that its perfect.

Better palm rejection is needed, some times my palm, while using the iPad pencil, will resize the image, will step back the previous line or work you just did, randomly saves work while still drawing a line then that line is lost and sees the palm as the point to start drawing and the pencil doesnt work. Sometimes the step back function goes back multiple steps when only tapped once. Otherwise this app is awesome for trace work.
